ST. LOUIS, April 23 (UPI) — The first flight for the F-15K41 Slam Eagle left from a testing ground at the Lambert St. Louis International Airport, aerospace company Boeing announced.
Boeing said the F-15K41 flew for about an hour during a test flight over St. Louis. The tested vehicle is the first in a series of 21 F-15Ks that Boeing is producing for the South Korean air force.
The F-15K is a variant of the F-15E Strike Eagle deployed with U.S., Israeli, South Korean and Saudi air force units.
The advanced variant F-15K Slam Eagle is designed to give the South Koreans the ability to change their defense focus from a short-range posture to one that considers the “omnidirectional” threats the republic could face in the future, Boeing said.
The service life for the Slam Eagle extends through 2040.
