The PBS documentary “Blueprint America: Beyond the Motor City” will get the conversation rolling at a University of Memphis conference on livability and transportation May 13-14.
A screening at 7 p.m. May 13 in the University Center Theatre will be followed by a panel discussion. The film looks at America’s investment in highways and automotive infrastructure and the consequences for public transit, historic preservation, the environment and other quality-of-life issues.
The conversation goes on from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. May 14 in The Zone of the FedEx Institute of Technology. The lineup includes U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, “Beyond the Motor City” producer Aaron Woolf, Center for Neighborhood Technology president Scott Bernstein, and Leslie Blakey, executive director of the Coalition for America’s Gateways and Trade Corridors.
The U of M Papasan Public Policy Institute will host the free public conference, which is co-sponsored by the U of M’s Intermodal Freight Transportation Institute, Division of City and Regional Planning and School of Public Health.
