NEW YORK, May 19 (UPI) — Crude oil prices held above $69 per barrel overnight on the New York Mercantile Exchange Wednesday, as equity markets continued to slide.

Markets fell in China, Japan, Hong Kong and India. In midmorning trading in Europe, stocks were down in France, Germany, Spain, Britain and Italy.

The dollar index rose 1.09 percent Tuesday, putting pressure on oil prices, which have fallen 19 percent off their high for the year above $86 per barrel.

In New York, June delivery crude oil prices pitched lower overnight, hitting $69.11 per barrel, before gaining some traction — recently trading at $69.39 per barrel.

Heating oil prices for June delivery lost 0.0067 cents to $1.9548 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline blendstock prices shed 0.0062 cents to $2.0369 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas prices dropped 0.054 cents to $4.288 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price for unleaded regular gasoline dropped to $2.852 per gallon from Tuesday’s $2.859, AAA said.
