Airport security did a precautionary check of a Pinnacle Airlines flight at Memphis International Airport Friday morning after a passenger’s checked bag triggered an explosives detection alarm in Tulsa.
The Transportation Security Administration said the passenger and his traveling companions were cleared to continue their trip after the search by a canine team turned up nothing.
The suspicious bag was flagged by security at Tulsa International Airport, the TSA said in a statement. “The bag was later cleared but did not make the flight.”
“Out of due diligence, the decision was made to interview the passenger upon the landing of the flight (Pinnacle Airlines 3934) in Memphis.”
“Law enforcement interviewed the passenger and his travel companions. The plane was swept by a canine team with negative results and all passengers were cleared to continue with their travels. The passenger’s bag will be shipped to the passenger,” the TSA stated.
It wasn’t clear if Memphis was the passenger’s final destination, or if he was connecting to another flight.
Pinnacle spokesman Joe Williams said the airline was working with TSA to provide information and assistance.
Williams said Flight 3934 “was requested upon landing to park at a remote area of the airport to allow authorities to question a passenger regarding baggage that he had checked in Tulsa. The remaining passengers were deplaned and bused to the terminal.”
