STOCKHOLM, Sweden, May 3 (UPI) — Swedish Defense Materiel Administration selected Sectra to develop next-generation encryption capabilities for integration with government networks.
Swedish secure communications systems development company Sectra announced it will provide its high-speed crypto technologies to improve the encryption speeds of the Swedish government’s top secret voice, video and other data transfers.
“Sectra’s high-speed crypto guarantees the highest security and provides the authorities and the defense forces in Sweden access to rapid and secure transmission of information,” Sectra Communications President Michael Bertilsson said in a statement.
Sectra says as part of the $3.16 million award, it will increase encryption speeds for the Swedish government to 10 gigabytes per second from the current 155 megabytes per second on critical civil and military networks.
The increase encryption capabilities, expected to be delivered in 2012, is part of a larger initiative to strengthen cybersecurity and protect sensitive government data in the face of increasing online threats.
