CAMBRIDGE, England, May 6 (UPI) — European defense company Thales says two of its data encryption solutions have received a Federal Information Processing Standard certification.

Developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the FIPS cryptographic security benchmark is widely recognized as the security standard needed for widespread deployment of a company’s technology.

Thales says its received a FIPS 140-2 Level Three certification for its Datacryptor high speed SONET/SDH and also its Ethernet Layer 2 hardware-based network encryption technologies used in military and government satellite communications among other applications.

To achieve the Level Three certification, Thales’ encryption solutions were required to meet physical tamper-resistance standards. That certification is required by agencies like the U.S. Defense Department.

“This certification represents our ongoing commitment for our Datacryptor product portfolio,” said Franck Greverie, Thales Information Technology Security vice president, said in a statement.
