I don’t know what I signed up for, but in the past few weeks, I have been assailed with snail mail asking me to contribute to a various humanitarian and relief efforts across the world — clean water, dying animals, homeless people — you name it.

I had a different topic in mind for this week’s roundup, but then I came home yesterday and checked my mail. Yep, another piece of fundraising mail. This one was in a regular-sized envelope but was strangely heavy and textured, so I decided to open it. It’s from the Children’s Hunger Relief Fund. “Every penny is so important!” the letter claims. “Just 3 cents a day from Children’s Hunger Relief Fund can help provide hope for an African child.” Oh, really?

We need to contact a government official in times of dilemma and the best possible way to get our grievances addressed, is by writing a letter. While writing a letter to government officials, it is very important that we use proper language and address the officials with proper salutations. You can read more on letter writing.

These formal letters are to be written in a proper format and you just can’t begin the letter with a simple ‘Hello’ or ‘Dear Mr. Smith’. Chances are that a majority of people you know are on Facebook. I signed in up in college on the day it was released to the University of Texas students; the site started off as something for Ivy League students only, but then trickled to all other colleges, then high schools, then the general public. It has ballooned into an international behemoth with more than 450 million users, according to CNN.com. While more members means you have more friends, family and colleagues to connect with online, it also means more people seeing your information, many of whom shouldn’t have access to that data. Facebook also developed applications and programs such as Facebook Connect, which share your information with outside parties.

The Fed recently launched a new site that provides consumers with online access to credit card agreements from hundreds of major credit issuers. When I first heard about it, I thought this could turn out to be a pretty useful tool.

Credit card agreements are notoriously hard to find when you have a good reason to read one, and most consumers frankly fail to ever make the effort. But if they could all be found in one online repository, it would makes things much easier for everyone, right?
